We want all our kitties to be happy, so we have included some tip below on how you can help smooth the transition from home to holiday for you cat and we thought you may be interested in what we do to help.

We are fully booked for the busy Christmas period from Christmas to New Year. Caution – lets keep our pets safe this Easter

Chocolate is very poisonous to dogs and cats. Keep your chocolate up high and secure away from your pets. If your kids have an Easter egg hunt, lock up pets while the chocolates are out and count everything that gets hidden so you know that it has been found.

Easter Lillies – every part of these plants are poisonous to cats and causes renal (kidney) failure. You will not notice signs until there is significant kidney damage. To eliminate risk I will not have them in my house at all.

Packing – lots of easter baskets have cellophane string like strips. Some cats like playing with this. Unfortunately if they swallow it, it can tear holes in their intestines as it passes through.

Aries   21 March – 19 April

Aries cats are strong and independent. They are born leaders and take on each day with an amazing enthusiasm. Watching your Aries cat at play you can easily see how he is related to the majestic lions and curious tigers. And luckily for you, if they do manage to catch a mouse or lizard, they are very generous and will always share their catch!

On the down side, Aries have been accused of being moody and self involved. In their defense, they are perfectly well behaved as well as you realise when they want attention, when they are ready to come indoors and when they want to be fed. These cats are very good at training their owners!

Compatible Owners: Leo,  Taurus
Favourite Food: Anything that costs more than $20/kg!
Best Attribute: Strongly independent
Worst Attribute: Easy to spoil

Happy birthday to all of our Aries cats!

Helping Cats Settle In

One of the keys to a good holiday is knowing our cats are safe, well cared for and happy. There are things you can do that help the transition from home to holiday home

  1. Preparation – get your vaccinations, de-worming and flea prevention up to date. Vaccination should be done at least 2 weeks before the travel date. This way the vaccine will be working and your cat will be feeling well when they start boarding (some cats feel a little unwell for 24-48 hours after vaccines and worming). Flea prevention is required the morning of admission.
  2. Secure travel – cats should always be moved in a secure cat carry cage. Even if you only use this cage a couple of times a year, it’s a very important investment. I, personally, have seen cats taken to vet clinics for a minor illness, only to escape from the car and end up a major trauma patient. Some cats prefer wire top cages, but many prefer the security of a more closed in cage – remember most cats like playing in boxes. This makes them feel secure. If your cat arrives relaxed they will generally be happier right from the start. It’s a good idea to leave the cat cage open at home for a week or so before travel – your cat can then explore the cage in a relaxed environment.
  3. Relax! – your cat can feel any tension that you may be feeling and in turn will become stress themselves. Leaving the home with positive and happy energy will offer reassurance that your cat needs at a time of change.
  4. Something from home – please talk to us about whether it would help to bring a familiar home item. This could be a favourite bed, one of your jumpers or a scratching post.
  5. Diet – it is best to keep your cat on the same or familiar foods. Please tell us what your cat eats. If your cat has exotic tastes, feel free to bring along a selection of favourite tit bits. It is not unusual for cats not to eat for the first day if they are new to boarding. Don’t panic if this happens. Divine Creatures staff are all highly trained in the veterinary industry with years worth of tricks and a gourmet range of foods to get even the fussiest of eaters eating well.
  6. Litter box – if your cat has certain litter box likes and dislikes, please tell us – sometimes the simple things are what makes cats truly comfortable.

With years of collective experience, Divine Creatures have some very effective ways of making your cat’s holiday stress free. Here are a few examples which makes us a cut above the rest:

  1. The first of its kind, state of the art, custom engineered ventilation system has been installed at Divine Creatures. This means that cats can not smell each other, which greatly reduces stress. With most pets, it is all about smell. When we use our eyes to assess new environments, they use smell.
  2. Feliway is infused in the ventilation system and is one of the keys to stress free holidays. Feliway® is a synthetic copy of the feline facial pheromone, used by cats to mark their territory as safe and secure.
  3. Full time cat sitters – TLC is provided all day every day!
  4. Individual play time with our cat sitters offering more TLC. Odour neutralizers and disinfectants are used to disinfect and eliminate smells in between each guest
  5. Litter trays checked every hour – cats like us humans hate dirty litter trays!
  6. Cat music & No Dogs on the premises offer comfort, security and a peaceful relaxing holiday

These are just a few points of differences between us and other boarding facilities. I always recommend that you visit the boarding facility, assess the facility with your own eyes and use logical common sense e.g. if they require an appointment – they have something to hide!
